Dr. Frank Calcagno, MD

 
 

Dr. Frank A. Calcagno is a pediatrician originally from Troutdale, Oregon. He is a Sam Barlow High School graduate and state finalist wrestler who then attended University of Portland for his undergraduate studies. He began his medical journey at OHSU in 1996 and completed his residency at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland, California.

What sets Dr. Calcagno apart is his commitment to giving back to the community where he grew up. He firmly believes in supporting the place that shaped him. He has supported local school sports teams and clubs and has been the volunteer team doctor for Barlow football. His passion for pediatrics comes from the belief that children are the future, and it truly takes a village to raise them. Dr. Calcagno's care philosophy is to intervene only when necessary, ensuring that children get the right care at the right time.

He has a desire to make Calpeds a teaching clinic, and has welcomed students of all academic levels and interests with a hands-on medical training approach. His teaching philosophy is see one, do one, teach one. He has trained and promoted MAs, Scribes, PAs, NDs, NPs, and resident MDs and DOs. He has also hosted veterinary and chiropractic students.

Dr. Calcagno has special interests in ADHD, asthma, dermatology, and child development. Dr. Calcagno is a strong believer in research and has been actively involved in clinical trials since 1999. He's been a primary investigator since 2003, which means he's been a key player in helping find new and better ways to keep kids healthy. He's also a unique individual who speaks the binary code of moisture vaporators!

Outside of work, Dr. Calcagno has a wide range of hobbies. He enjoys sailing, fishing, hunting, cooking, sewing, making costumes, gardening, and even making his own wine. He is also a certified open water SCUBA diver.
